The bags are packed, the forms are overdue, and apparently summer is nearly done.
Every August seems to pull the same trick.
One minute it’s long evenings, iced coffees and pretending September is ages away. The next, camps are wrapping up, preseason has started, college drop-offs are happening and those dreaded school health forms I mentioned in my last newsletter are suddenly marked OVERDUE. Funny how ignoring them didn’t work.
August always feels like I still have one foot still firmly in summer, while the other is being dragged toward schedules and school routines as my youngest embarks on his final year of high school.
But while we’re all clinging to the last weeks of summer here, back in Australia there’s a different sign that the seasons are changing.
Magpies

Magpies

If you grew up in Australia, you know.
Spring is coming when perfectly normal adults start crossing the road to avoid a certain tree, cyclists attach zip ties to their helmets and children suddenly become very interested in the location of the nearest umbrella.
Magpie swooping season is a uniquely Australian rite of passage.
You don’t really understand it until you’ve been chased down the street by a bird the size of a loaf of bread.

Meanwhile at Boomerang Bites…

We are absolutely not ready to give up summer yet.
So the S’mores Bite is hanging around until the end of August — graham cracker base, soft chocolate and our house-made marshmallow, toasted on top.
And because apparently one s’mores thing wasn’t enough, we also created our Campfire Cold Foam: light, fluffy cold foam with graham cracker, brown sugar and vanilla bean.
Add it to your coffee and call it breakfast.
We won’t judge.

We’ve also been baking plenty of our old faithfuls — ANZACs, Raspberry Coconut, Salted Chocolate Caramel and all the bites that have been with us since long before seasonal flavors became a thing.
Sometimes the classics are classics for a reason.
So if you’re also pretending September isn’t coming, come sit in the backyard, grab an iced coffee and squeeze a little more out of summer with us.
There’s still time.
Be good. Do good. Eat bites.
